Also remembered as George Washington's Choice bedspreads, Martha Washington's Choice is a Candlewick terry, although many people refer to it as chenille, which is the same cloth as candlewick or terry loop but the "loop" is cut.
In addition to bedspread sizes, Martha Washington's Choice is available in coverlet sizes, standard pillow shams, king size shams and throws. This one hundred percent high grade cotton [tag]bedspread[/tag] is preshrunk and machine washable. In addition, fade-resistant dyes are used to avoid fading. The Jacquard loom was invented by Joseph M. Jacquard in 1804. The Jacquard loom automatically controls the warp and weft threads on a loom by recording patterns of holes in a string of cards. Warp is the lengthwise threads as the cloth is woven, and weft is the crosswise threads as woven.
Maine Heritage Weavers manufactures chenille-type ([tag]candlewick[/tag]) and matelasse ([tag]trapunto[/tag]) coverlets, bedspreads, pillow shams, and throws on dobby and Jacquard looms. These looms are similar to those used by Bates Fabrics, which was famous for the quality of their bedspreads.
Former Bates employees continue the tradition of weaving America's favorite bedspreads and coverlets as taught to them by their parents and grandparents. They are now the first generation of weavers at Maine Heritage Weavers. The products woven at Maine Heritage Weavers are 100 percent cotton.
